Maps and routes from the CNYO A meet. I had a decent sprint, making
perhaps one 20 second error and having a fine route to control #2
(running the stream bed), a control some people lost time on.
I had a terrible middle. It started off ok, as I caught PG, who started
2 min ahead of me, at #3. I lost 4 minutes on #4, tho, as I worried too
much about race tactics rather than the map. I also got a small stick in
my eye that I could not get out, and that didn't help with focus (it
was in all day; that evening I managed to pull a small (2 cm) twig out
of my eye. Yuck!). I didn't particularly enjoy the terrain on day
1; both the fields and forest were replete with crappy this and crappy
that.
I had a mediocre classic, basically not missing much except a bungled
route to #9; probably 2 min total. I was terribly slow, possibly my
slowest in a long time. I guess I'm done. I enjoyed the day 2 map and
terrain much better, and I thought the course setting was interesting.
The map was reputed to be a blank paper map by Dominie -- pretty impressive
as I had no issues with the contours or otherwise.
