Revolution #1: A Walk in the Park

LOCATION:  Valley Forge Nat'l Historical Park, Montgomery County, PA

CHALLENGE:  2 stars

DATE/NUMBER:  29-Aug-1998/1

MAP:

It has been reported that this box is not here. It has also been reported that someone may replace it. Still, there is no reason you can't enjoy the clues and the place, however.

Look for a pointer about 3333 feet north of the memorial arch. It doesn't point to the box, unfortunately, but man, you should at least find water. With soldiers behind you, look for the right pines, which are taller yet much more difficult to see than the wrong pines. From the center of this grove, go to the small presidents' abode, by following a bearing of 260 degrees. From the basement door, continue on a 260 degree bearing to the tip of the woods. Thence, 22 degrees for 22 paces will lead you to a pile of deadwood, thence 22 paces at 4 degrees will lead you to the box in a hollow log.

NOTE 1:  Once you have stamped up, you may want to look for Revolution #2: The Throne of Joy, if you have the time. Click here for that letterbox, the next one in the Revolution series.

NOTE 2:  Valley Forge park is a great place to spend the day walking, biking, or picnicking. Also, there are many deer in the park; best viewing is sunrise, sunset, and on dreary days. Bring lunch, the family, and a kite.

NOTE 3:  Off-trail walking is involved, although it is possible to do most of it on mowed trails and paved roads.

NOTE 4:  Be wary of snakes and other wildlife when reaching into dark places. No need to dig for this box. All bearings magnetic unless otherwise noted. A pace is a long stride counted on a footfall of either foot, i.e. two paces are counted each time the right foot hits the ground. Be aware of if or when there is game hunting in the area.

NOTE 5:  Please re-hide the thing well just as you found it. This area of the park gets alot of visitors.
